Drew Central Elementary fourth graders were mesmerized as Dr. Max Terrell,
dressed as a Union infantry soldier, told real life stories about the Civil
War. His ancestors had served in the Union Army and he read many letters
written to family members in the 1800’s. He shared artifacts. Among those
were clothing items and tomb stone rubbings. The students learned about
websites that are available for tracing their genealogy. Students had been
studying the causes of the war and this was the perfect way to bring it to
life. This event was provided through the Southeast Education Renewal Zone
(ERZ) and UAM which is support for teachers.
